Artist: Joe DeVelasco 1989

Joe DeVelasco (1933-1999) was born in Chicago's Uptown area; he attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the American Academy of Art. Since 1961 until 1999 he was a free-lance artist and Fine Arts painter. He periodically held drawing workshops at his studio and has taught workshops at Studio Four Art Workshop in downtown Chicago and the Park Ridge Art League.

He has paintings in the collection of the Billy Graham Center in Wheaton, IL; Congressman Derwinski of the State of Indiana and United States Senate chaplain Richard Halverson, Washington, D.C.

Major advertising agencies in Chicago such as: Leo Burnett Co., Inc.; J. Walter Thompson USA, Inc. and Post, Keyes and Gardner Agency have used his free-lance work. He had done medical illustrations for Chicago University Hospital and the Siber-McInyre Agency. CBS television network used him to do court room sketches.

He had won numerous awards for his illustrations from the Communications Collaborative which membership includes: Artists Guild of Chicago, SMP - Society of Photographers in Communications, Chicago Film Society, Chicago Society of communicating Arts, Graphic Arts Council and the Society of Typographic Arts.

Joe was a member of the Oil Painters of America organization; He had held several one-man shows in the Midwest including the Chicago Press Club.

He did a video musical for singer-song writer Billy Joel; the illustrated advertisement for Hallmark's television production of "All Creatures Great And Small". He had also done a series of animated videos on the Bible; he illustrated the renowned trilogy "The Singer Trilogy" by Calvin Miller published by InterVarsity Press; he illustrated the book "The Gospels Illustrated" published by Cook Publishing.

Additional Work includes illustrations for the Chicago Tribune, and he won Certificates of Excellence; advertisements for various Chicago and Suburban banks and manufacturing companies; illustrations for American Artist Magazine, Monthly Moody magazine and Campus Life magazine.
