Nancy Powell McLaughlin pieces represent legends of different Native American tribes. Most of the legends were of the Blackfeet, Blood and Piegan, however, she also included Southwest and Northwest coastal groups.

Bronze is an alloy of copper and tin and is particularly suited to casting. Bronze sculptures are expensive in relation to other forms of art of the time and skill required in their production. Also, Bronze is an expensive metal. Larger bronzes are cast hollow due to the heaviness of the metal.
