A commercial artist for 32 years, Furmanski has drafted catalog and magazine layouts and illustrated greeting cards. Golfers know him for his golf course paintings, commissioned by course developers and tournament sponsors. (He painted the 2004 U.S. Senior Open.)
In addition to the commercial artwork he does from his Wheaton, IL studio, Furmanski paints 25 house-portraits a year. His goal, Furmanski says, is to create more than an architectural rendering. "This is why I use watercolor. It allows me to create emotions and set the time and type of day."A graduate of the American Academy of Art in Chicago, Furmanski often takes time out to teach watercolor. Although Furmanski says "there are very few things" he'd rather do than paint, he does break from his 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekday routine during the summer to play golf.
Retirement is not on his calendar, says Furmanski, "It isn't like leaving a company after 30 years," he says. "I'll always paint."
